Kickstarter of the Week: Fantasy Frontier

Fantasy FrontierNext to the old wooden sailing ships, one of my favorite alternative modes of transportation is steampunk-type airships. And that’s what immediately caught my eye in our newest Kickstarter of the Week: Fantasy Frontier. In addition to having some truly impressive artwork, Fantasy Frontier puts players in a game of airship exploration and aerial combat. With some great components (seriously, this game comes with many) and some unique rules, Fantasy Frontier is worth a look for any fans of the genre.

From the Kickstarter page:

Fantasy Frontier AirshipEach player controls a unique airship with a crew of pioneers. Players manage the actions of these pioneers each turn in effort to scout the land, gather resources, construct townships, and even battle it out in aerial combat.
Creating geographic patterns via tile placement, the players will develop a new world each time they play.
Players compete to be the first to score a required number of victory points to win the game. Points are scored by building townships, completing geographic patterns and fighting their rivals in airship battles!

The Kickstarter page is loaded with many different images and text for you to learn more about this exploration game. The page also has a prototype rule book for download and a game play video to watch. I’m always happy when a Kickstarter campaign provides a good amount of detail on how the game plays, as that’s usually the most important decision on whether or not to buy a game. Fantasy Frontier has already cruised past its funding goal and is well on its way to unlocking several stretch goals. A $45 dollar pledge will get you a copy of the game with all material/component stretch goals. The game is scheduled to be in backers’ hands in May 2014 and you have until Tuesday, October 8th to become a backer. Head over there today if this seems like a game you’d be interested in backing.

  1. I know it is a bit late for people as the backing period is over, but last weekend I got to demo the game at a gaming convention in Tucson and it plays great. Is lots of fun.
