This weekend we had a chance to play the second game on the Board Game Grow. Not a new game for me by any stretch, but always a popular one. So what is Cards Against Humanity? It’s a very easy to learn party game that is sure to invoke a lot of laughs.
If you have every played the popular part game Apples to Apples then you’ve played Cards Against Humanity. For those that haven’t, it’s very simple and easy to learn. Everyone has a hand of 10 cards with random words or phrases on them. One person, the judge, will draw a card from another stack and everyone must play a card from their hand that best fits the judge card. For example, the judge card may be: The next Harry Potter movie will be titled, Harry Potter and the Chamber of _______. It’s up to the other players to find the most creative and funny card from their hand that best fills in the blank. The judge then picks which card he thinks best fits the blank (or really, whichever one he feels like choosing). The winning player gets the judge card in his score pile and the judge moves clockwise.
So that’s basically the game in a nut shell. Simple to play and you can go as long as you really feel like. Now, if you’ve played Apples to Apples, you might be wondering how they are different. Well Cards Against Humanity tries hard to be as crazy and objectionably as possible. While Apples to Apples will have cards like, Lemons or Industrial Revolution, Cards Against Humanity will have cards like: 2 Midgets Shitting Into a Bucket or Being a Mother Fucking Sorcerer.
To be honest, after playing a few games of Cards Against Humanity, I don’t see myself ever going back to Apples to Apples. The game just provides so much more fun and so many more laughs. They took an already popular concept and added a mature twist. Now if you are very conservative or easily offended, then this is definitely not the game for you. However, if you love to laugh and are pretty easy going, I’d say give this one a try. It’s a great filler game you can play to kick off a game night or just to have some fun with friends.
If you are interested in getting a copy for yourself, the base game is only $25. The game sells out quite often and the First Expansion, which sells for $10 sells out almost immediately. However if you can get your hands on this game, I’d highly recommend it.
Final Score: 4 Stars – Yes, buy this right now, you will never laugh so hard!
Hits:
• The cards are some of the most creative I’ve seen
• Very easy to learn rules
• Game is quite open ended, scoring is really optional to the game itself
• Will spark some interesting conversations
• Can be expanded up constatly
Misses:
• Not for those easily offended
It may also be noted that for those looking to purchase this game or test it out that they can print their own. The creators offer a downloadable PDF with full instructions on making it themselves.
Good point. People can go to http://www.cardsagainsthumanity.com and print out their own copy.
